A mediator is a neutral third party who can help people in conflict find to problem solve and find amiable solutions and create an agreement. Mediators learn skills which can be used in personal relationships and professional situations.

Participants will learn:

  • Different kinds of conflict
  • What's your own conflict type
  • Getting past, “you’re wrong…I’m right”
  • Effective and active listening
  • Recognizing non-verbal communication and cues
  • Balancing power
  • Using neutral language to express different points of view
  • Understanding different cultural and identity viewpoints in mediation
  • Validating everyone's emotions
  • Finding “win-win” solutions
  • Writing agreements that are realistic and work for everyone
  • How to volunteer with the DRC

The Dispute Resolution Center offers a 40-hour General Civil Mediation Training once per year.

Specifically we offer general civil and private practice trainings, advanced trainings, and workshops applicable to effective mediation.
